The SIB is a Swiss success story at the frontier of biology and computer science. When the SIB was founded in 1998, bioinformatics was still in its infancy – both in Switzerland and abroad. The SIB founders were pioneers – shaping an organisation of exceptional quality. The SIB’s founding is also due to the visionary support of a few Swiss politicians.
30 March 2008 was a milestone for the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. The Institute celebrated its 10th anniversary and a number of the services it offers for the life science research community worldwide also celebrated important anniversaries – 15th anniversary of ExPASy, SWISS-MODEL and SWISS-2DPAGE, 20th of PROSITE and Melanie's 25th.
As bioinformatics resources become increasingly essential in life sciences research, SIB will continue to lead developments in the field.
