The SIB is organised as a federation of bioinformatics research groups from leading Swiss universities and the Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology.
It comprises four major governing bodies:
- Foundation Council: represents both public and private sector interests
- Scientific Advisory Board: guarantees research quality
- Board of Directors: determines both scientific strategy and budgets
- Council of Group Leaders: manages both current affairs and an accounting auditor
The Director of the Institute chairs the Council of Group Leaders and is a member of the Board of Directors.
